The many articles and photographs which have been submitted provide a fascinating insight into diverse facets of the TSS Earnslaw’s life during the past 100 years. Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to enter the competition.

The winning entry was submitted by Janet Smith, now of Timaru, whose submission recalls life in the Routeburn area as the daughter of a sawmiller in the late 1920s. She describes the TSS Earnslaw as a “lifeline” and has shared a number of captivating family photographs which can be seen along with her story.

Congratulations to Janet who wins a double pass, worth $700, on the re-enactment of the maiden passenger voyage which will sail from Queenstown to Kingston and return on the TSS Earnslaw’s official birthday, on October 18 2012.

The Earnslaw carried the Duke of York in 1927 and the Duke of Gloucester in 1935.
